Origin:

Stonecrops (Sedum) are native to Europe, Asia and North America. They are found in a variety of habitats, from dry sites to alpine regions.

Growth:

Sedums have a low, bushy habit and form dense cushions or mats. Depending on the species and variety, they can reach a height of a few centimeters to 60 centimeters.

Leaves:

The leaves of sedum are juicy and fleshy, often with an oval or oblong shape. Depending on the species and variety, the leaf color can vary from green to blue-green to reddish or purple.

Blossom:

Sedums produce showy inflorescences in a variety of colors, including white, yellow, pink and red. The inflorescences can be flat or umbrella-shaped and often attract bees and other pollinators.

Location:

Sedums prefer sunny locations with well-drained soil. They are extremely drought resistant and can thrive in a variety of soil types as long as the soil is well drained. They are also cold hardy and can survive in temperate to cold climates.

Care:

Sedums are extremely easy to care for and require little attention. They only require occasional watering, especially during long dry periods. Excessive watering should be avoided as it can lead to root rot. Wilted inflorescences can be removed to encourage new bud formation, and plants can be lightly pruned in spring to improve their appearance.
