Origin:
The Star of Bethlehem originates from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, though it has spread to temperate and subtropical regions worldwide.
Growth:
This herbaceous, bulbous plant grows between 10 and 40 cm tall. It produces a rosette of leaves, from which a single, upright flower stalk emerges in spring.
Leaves:
The leaves are narrow, lance-shaped, and grass-like, growing directly from the bulb. They are often dark green with a faint mid-rib and appear early in the season, retracting after the bloom.
Bloom:
Flowering typically occurs from April to June. The star-shaped flowers are usually white with green stripes on the underside of the petals. They open in sunlight, adding an elegant, bright touch to gardens.
Location:
Star of Bethlehem plants prefer sunny to partially shaded spots with well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. They are ideal for rock gardens, meadows, or the borders of flower beds.
Care:
These plants are low-maintenance. They require moderate watering, especially in dry periods, while avoiding waterlogged soil. A light fertilization in spring helps promote growth. They multiply easily through offsets (daughter bulbs), which can be separated and replanted.
