Origin:
Hypericum is a genus of plants in the family Hypericaceae. The genus includes hundreds of species found in temperate and subtropical regions around the world, including Europe, Asia, North Africa and North America.
Growth:
The growth habit of Hypericum varies depending on the species and variety. Some species are low-growing ground covers, while others can become shrub-like or even tree-like. The height can range from a few centimeters to several meters.
Leaves:
The leaves of Hypericum are usually arranged oppositely and can have different shapes and sizes depending on the species and variety. They are usually leathery and can be dark green in color.
Flowers:
Hypericum produces showy flowers in a variety of colors including yellow, white, pink and red. The flowers may appear singly or in clusters at the tips of branches and often have numerous stamens.
Location:
Hypericum prefers sunny to partially shaded locations with well-drained soil. Some species are drought tolerant and can thrive in a variety of soil types, while others prefer wetter conditions.
Care:
Hypericum is a relatively easy-care plant. It requires regular watering, especially during extended dry periods, and can benefit from annual spring fertilization. Wilted inflorescences should be removed to encourage new flowers to form and, if necessary, plants can be pruned in spring to improve their appearance.
