Origin:
Eucalyptus, also known as the rubber or blue gum tree, is native to Australia and Tasmania. However, today it is grown in many parts of the world, particularly in Mediterranean and subtropical regions.
Growth:
Eucalyptus trees are evergreen trees or shrubs that can grow quickly. Depending on the species, they can reach heights of 10 to over 100 meters.
Leaves:
The leaves of the eucalyptus are long, narrow and elliptical. They are blue-green to gray-green in color and are known for their characteristic scent.
Blossom:
Eucalyptus flowers are often inconspicuous and usually white, cream or yellowish. They form in dense inflorescences and are an important food source for bees and other pollinating insects.
Location:
Eucalyptus prefers sunny locations with well-drained soil. They are relatively undemanding and can grow in a variety of soil types as long as the soil is not too wet. However, they are not hardy and may require protection from frost in colder climates.
Care:
Eucalyptus trees require little care once established. They are drought tolerant and typically do not require supplemental watering unless replanted or suffering from drought stress. Light pruning may be performed occasionally to maintain shape or control growth.
