Blumen Schulthess Clinic

History of the Schulthess Clinic

There is a long road and enormous technical development between the founding of the clinic by Wilhelm Schulthess and today's competence center for orthopedics. But what has remained the same over all these years is the demand for the highest quality in the interests of our patients.

In 1962 Prof. Dr. med. Norbert Gschwend took over the management of the financially troubled Schulthess Clinic. He stood for the change to orthopedic surgery and the use of artificial joints, which caused a stir at the time. He also consistently pushed forward specialization as well as rheumatism orthopedics. With the employment of Prof. Dr. med. Heiner Scheier as co-chief physician ultimately laid the foundation for today's team structure with division into areas of competence. The consulting work of the two chief physicians at the university clinics led to the Schulthess Clinic being recognized as a training facility in Category A for orthopedic surgery.

In 1985, the Health Department of the Canton of Zurich offered the Wilhelm Schulthess Foundation public building land on Lengghalde. The Schulthess Clinic was thus firmly established in politics and in the canton. Since 1995, the Schulthess Clinic has been based in the most modern buildings between Balgrist and Burghölzli on the Lengghalde on the outskirts of Zurich. In summer
In 2006, an extension was built to accommodate the ever-growing number of operations and medical services.

Today, around 12,000 operations and medical services on the musculoskeletal and musculoskeletal system are performed at the Schulthess Clinic every year. The clinic also has a scientific research department and has “A” training status in orthopedic surgery and “B” training status in hand surgery. The clinic has also been designated a Swiss Olympic Medical Center.

What do I have to consider:

  • Please make sure that the patient is still in the hospital at the time of delivery so that we can deliver the flowers.
  • Patients who are still in the intensive care unit are usually not allowed to receive flowers until they have been assigned a room.
