Flowers at the Münsterlingen Cantonal Hospital

History of the Münsterlingen Cantonal Hospital

The Münsterlingen Cantonal Hospital has its origins in an early monastery, from whose walls it developed.
This monastery was probably founded around 986. A late medieval legend that has remained alive through the centuries tells: "Angela, the daughter of the English King Edward I, was on her way back from her brother, the Anglo-Saxon Abbot Gregor (964-996) in Einsiedeln, and was caught in a violent foehn storm and in distress while sailing across Lake Constance. She is said to have vowed "To have a chapel and a refuge for pious women built on the site of the saving bank. When she set foot on solid land again, she kept her promise."
The church was built on the lake and was called Monasteriolum, later Münsterlingen. Shortly before, when the hospice for the sick and poor was relocated from the city of Konstanz, an Augustinian monastery had been founded in Kreuzlingen. In addition to religious brothers, religious sisters who had been hired specifically to care for the sick also worked there. In the period from 986 to 1000, these sisters were moved to the Monasteriolum and remained subject to the Augustinian Rule. This was founded in 1254 by Pope Innocent III. confirmed.
Since then, the sick have been cared for and looked after in Münsterlingen, so that the monastery can look back on a 1000-year tradition of medical nursing.

What do I have to consider:

  • Please make sure that the Patient is still in the Hospital at the Time of Delivery so that we can deliver the Flowers.
  • Patients who are still in the intensive care unit are usually not allowed to receive Flowers until they have been assigned a Room.
