Origin:
The viburnum is a genus of shrubs and small trees that belong to the musk herb family (Adoxaceae). They are native to temperate and subtropical regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including Europe, Asia and North America.
Growth:
Viburnum bushes are deciduous or evergreen plants that can reach heights of 1 to 5 meters, depending on the species. They have a bushy, often densely branched growth habit.
Leaves:
The leaves of the viburnum vary in shape depending on the species, but are often oval to ovoid and have jagged edges. They are arranged alternately and can take on an attractive color in autumn.
Blossom:
The flowers of the viburnum are arranged in dense, often spherical umbels or panicles. They are usually white or pink and often smell pleasant. The flowering period varies depending on the species, but is often spring to early summer.
Location:
Snowballs prefer a sunny to partially shaded location with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. They are adaptable and can thrive in different types of soil as long as the location is not too dry.
Care:
Viburnum bushes are relatively easy to care for. They require regular watering, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil moist. Annual pruning after flowering can help maintain the plant's shape and promote growth. Snowballs are susceptible to some pests and diseases, so they should be checked regularly for infestations. A layer of mulch around the base of the plant helps retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
