Origin:
Rudbeckias are a genus of flowering plants that belong to the Asteraceae family. They are native to North and Central America and are known for their bright yellow flowers with dark centers.
Growth:
Rudbeckias are perennial herbaceous plants with erect stems that can reach a height of 30 cm to over 1 meter, depending on the species and variety. They have a bushy growth habit and often form dense carpets of flowers.
Leaves:
The leaves of Rudbeckia are lanceolate to oval in shape and green in color. They are often hairy and may be arranged along the stems. The leaves are usually not as showy as the flowers, but they do add to the overall look of the plant.
Blossom:
The most striking features of rudbeckias are their bright yellow flowers with dark centers that are often brown or black. These flowers have the distinctive basket-flower shape and bloom in late summer to fall, providing an important food source for pollinating insects.
Location:
Rudbeckias prefer a sunny location with well-drained soil. They are relatively undemanding and can thrive in a variety of soil types as long as they are not too wet. They are often found in prairie meadows, meadows and gardens.
Care:
Rudbeckias are relatively low-maintenance plants that require little additional care once established. They require regular watering throughout the growing season, especially during dry periods. Once established, they are relatively drought tolerant. Wilted flowers should be removed regularly to encourage the formation of new flowers and improve the appearance of the plant. In the spring, light pruning can help encourage the growth of new shoots.
