Origin:

Myrtle (Myrtus communis) is a plant from the myrtle family (Myrtaceae). It is native to the Mediterranean and is distributed in regions such as the Eastern Mediterranean, North Africa and parts of Western Asia.

Growth:

Myrtle is an evergreen shrub or small tree that usually reaches 1 to 5 meters in height. It has a compact, bushy growth habit with dense branches and small, narrow leaves.

Leaves:

The leaves of myrtle are small, oval to lanceolate and have a leathery texture. They are dark green and shiny. The leaves contain essential oils that release a pleasant scent when crushed.

Blossom:

Myrtle produces small, white flowers with many stamens that appear in dense clusters at the ends of the branches. The flowers are fragrant and attract bees and other pollinators.

Location:

Myrtle prefers sunny to partially shaded locations with well-drained soil. It thrives best in moderately moist, well-drained soil. Myrtle is relatively hardy and can tolerate drier conditions.

Care:

Myrtle is an easy-care plant that requires little attention. It requires regular watering, especially during dry periods, and can benefit from annual spring fertilization. Occasional pruning promotes healthy growth and flower formation.
