Origin:
Forget-me-nots (Myosotis) belong to the Boraginaceae family and are native to temperate zones in Europe, Asia and North America. The genus includes about 50 species.
Growth:
Forget-me-nots are annual, biennial or perennial herbaceous plants. They grow low and usually reach a height of 10 to 40 cm. The plants form dense mats or loose clumps and have an upright or prostrate habit.
Leaves:
The leaves of the forget-me-not are simple, elongated to lanceolate and hairy. They are arranged in a basal rosette and also grow on the stem. The leaves are often slightly rough on the surface.
Blossom:
The small, delicate flowers of the forget-me-not have five petals and are a striking blue color with a yellow center. There are also varieties with white or pink flowers. The flowering period ranges from early spring to late spring, often April to June. The flowers are arranged in loose, panicle-like inflorescences.
Location:
Forget-me-nots prefer partially shaded to shady locations with moist, well-drained soil. They thrive in humus-rich soil and can be found in forests as well as on moist meadows and banks.
Care:
Forget-me-nots are easy to care for. They require regular watering, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil evenly moist. Light fertilization in spring can support growth. The plants often sow themselves and can establish themselves in the garden for years. Pruning after flowering can control spread and keep plants healthy.
