Origin:
The Levkoje (Matthiola) originally comes from the eastern Mediterranean and is native to various parts of Europe, North Africa and Asia. It belongs to the cruciferous family (Brassicaceae).
Growth:
The Levkoje is a herbaceous plant that can reach a height of around 30 to 60 centimeters. It forms dense clusters of leaves and inflorescences.
Leaves:
The leaves of Levkoje are lanceolate or narrow, slightly hairy and green in color. They grow alternately on the stem and can have a fine texture.
Blossom:
The flowers of the Levkoje are the most distinctive feature of the plant. They are often fragrant and come in a variety of colors including white, yellow, pink, purple and red. The inflorescences are dense and can contain a large number of flowers.
Location:
The Levkoje prefers sunny locations with well-drained soil. It thrives best in humus-rich soil that is kept moderately moist.
Care:
The Levkoje is a relatively easy plant to care for. It requires regular watering, especially during dry periods, and can benefit from annual spring fertilization. Wilted inflorescences should be removed regularly.
