Origin:
Ivy(Hedera), scientifically known as Hedera, is native to Europe, North Africa and parts of Asia
Growth:
Ivy has a climbing or creeping habit and can reach considerable heights depending on the variety and environment. It is known for its ability to cover walls, fences and trees.
Leaves:
The leaves of the ivy are heart-shaped to oval, dark green and shiny. Some varieties may also have a variegated or reddish color.
Blossom:
Ivy blooms in late summer or fall, but the flowers are inconspicuous and not particularly showy. They are often visited by bees and other insects.
Location:
Ivy thrives in semi-shady to shady locations, but can also grow in sunny areas as long as the soil is sufficiently moist. It can thrive in various soil types as long as the soil is well-drained.
Care:
Ivy is a robust and easy-care plant. It requires little care and can even be pruned heavily to control its growth or shape it. Regular watering is particularly important during dry periods, but waterlogging should be avoided as this can lead to root rot. Invasive varieties should be cut back occasionally to control their spread.
