Origin:
Larkspur (Delphinium) is a genus of flowering plants that belong to the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). They are native to Europe, North America and parts of Asia.
Growth:
Delphinium is a perennial plant with upright stems that can reach a height of 30 cm to over 2 meters, depending on the species. They have a columnar shape and often form dense, flowering panicles.
Leaves:
The leaves of the delphinium are deeply cut and have a dark green color. They grow along the stems and contribute to the bushy appearance of the plant.
Blossom:
Larkspur produces showy, colorful flower spikes in a variety of colors including blue, purple, pink, white and yellow. The flowers have a typical, spur-like shape and bloom in spring and summer, depending on the species.
Location:
Larkspur prefers a sunny to partially shaded location with well-drained soil. They are relatively undemanding and can thrive in a variety of soil types as long as they are not too wet.
Care:
Delphiniums require regular watering throughout the growing season, especially during dry periods. Once established, they are relatively drought tolerant. Wilted inflorescences should be removed regularly to encourage the formation of new flowers and improve the appearance of the plant. Light pruning after flowering can help promote the growth of new shoots and keep the plant compact.
