Origin:
Dahlias (Dahlia) originally come from Mexico and belong to the Asteraceae family.
Growth:
Dahlias are perennial plants that grow from tubers. Depending on the variety and growing conditions, they can grow between 30 cm and 180 cm high. They have an upright habit with green stems and leaves.
Leaves:
The leaves of dahlias are usually lanceolate and can be different shades of green depending on the variety and age of the plant. They are usually large and form a dense base.
Blossom:
Dahlias produce a variety of flowers in different shapes and colors, including single, semi-double and double flowers. The flowers can range in size from a few centimeters to 30 centimeters and come in a wide range of colors including white, yellow, orange, pink, red, purple and even bicolor varieties.
Location:
Dahlias prefer a sunny location with well-drained soil. They require at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day to develop their best flowers. They are relatively undemanding and can grow in a variety of soil types as long as the soil is well drained.
Care:
Dahlias require regular watering, especially during dry periods. Waterlogging should be avoided as this can lead to root rot. Regular fertilization during the growing season promotes healthy growth and abundant flowering. Wilted inflorescences should be removed regularly to encourage new buds to form, and plants can be cut back in the fall to prepare them for winter.
