Origin:
Philodendron Xanadu, originally classified as part of the Philodendron family (Araceae), is native to Brazil. The plant became popular in Australia in the 1980s and spread worldwide as an ornamental.
Growth:
The Philodendron Xanadu is a compact, bushy, evergreen shrub that grows to about 60 to 90 cm tall and wide indoors. However, it can grow larger in tropical climates. The plant has a dense habit and produces numerous leaves from a central base.
Leaves:
The leaves of the Xanadu are deeply cut, shiny and dark green. Each leaf can grow up to 40 cm long and 30 cm wide. The leaves have a leathery texture and are highly lobed in shape, giving the plant a tropical appearance.
Location:
Philodendron Xanadu prefers bright, indirect light but can also thrive in lower light. Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can burn the leaves. The plant prefers a warm environment with temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius.
Care:
Philodendron Xanadu is easy to care for and ideal for beginners. It requires regular watering, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Waterlogging should be avoided as it can lead to root rot. High humidity benefits the plant, especially in dry indoor environments. Misting the leaves occasionally or placing them on a bed of gravel filled with water can help. Fertilizing monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer promotes growth. Pruning is rarely necessary but can be done to maintain shape or remove dead leaves.
