Origin:
Rose hips (rosa canina) come from rose plants in the Rosa genus. They are distributed in temperate climates around the world, from Europe to North Africa to Asia and North America.
Growth:
The rose hip plant, i.e. the rose, grows as a shrub or climbing plant and, depending on the variety and growing conditions, can reach a height of up to 2 meters. The rose hips themselves are the fruits that form after the rose has bloomed.
Leaves:
The leaves of the rosehip plant are usually pinnate and can vary depending on the type and variety of rose. They are usually dark green and have a shiny texture.
Blossom:
The rosehip plant produces showy flowers in a variety of colors, including white, pink, red and yellow, depending on the species and variety. These flowers develop into rosehip fruits over time.
Location:
Rose hips prefer a sunny location with well-drained soil. They are relatively undemanding and can thrive in a variety of soil types as long as the soil is not too wet.
Care:
Caring for rose hips is usually straightforward. They require regular watering during dry periods and can be provided with a balanced fertilizer from time to time. Wilted flowers can be removed to encourage new blooms to form. Rose hips can be harvested in the fall as soon as they are fully ripe.
