History of the Sonnenhof hospital Bern
The Sonnenhofspital is a private hospital in Bern. It belongs to the Lindenhof Group, which operates the Lindenhofspital and the Engeriedspital together with the Sonnenhofspital.
In accordance with the cantonal approval requirement that is common in Switzerland, the Lindenhof Group with the three hospitals as primary care providers (acute symptoms) is part of the hospital list approved on May 8, 2019.
The Sonnenhof Clinic opened on September 1, 1957 and was put into operation with 112 beds. A stock corporation was founded as a sponsor by a group of interested doctors; the founders were Arnold Kappert, Jean Kohler and André Nicolet.
The private hospital group Sonnenhof AG Bern was created in January 1998 through the merger of the Sonnenhofspital with the Engeriedspital.
As of January 1, 2012, the Lindenhof Bern Foundation took over the majority of the share capital of Sonnenhof AG. Today both hospitals, including the Lindenhofspital, belong to the Lindenhof group.
From 2017 to 2020, a renovation took place with an expansion of the bed capacity and the conversion of the operating area.
